A Somerset Service, Based in Frome

Being based in Frome makes this service especially convenient for Somerset clients who want clear communication, realistic turnaround times, and the option to drop off items locally rather than relying on a remote company.

Items can be dropped off, sent by post, or scanned on-site when needed for larger, fixed, or fragile objects.

A Practical, Real-World Approach to 3D Scanning

BluPrints3D isn’t just about producing scan files, it’s about solving real problems. Scanning experience matters because understanding how the file will actually be used is just as important as capturing the geometry.

One recent Somerset-area project involved scanning a damaged motorhome bumper where a section was missing entirely. I scanned the broken area, rebuilt the missing geometry digitally, then 3D printed a full-scale template so a body shop could fabricate a replacement. Several other companies had declined the job due to complexity.

Because I also run an in-house 3D printing setup, scanned files are prepared with practical outcomes in mind, especially when a scan is part of a wider repair or fabrication process.

What a Typical Somerset Scanning Project Looks Like

1. Initial discussion
Send photos, rough dimensions and what you need the scan for. I’ll confirm suitability and provide a clear, no-pressure quote.
2. Studio scanning (or on-site if required)
Most projects are scanned in the Frome studio for best control. On-site scanning is available across Somerset for larger or fixed objects.
3. High-resolution capture
Multiple passes are taken to capture accurate proportions, surface detail and complex geometry.
4. Cleanup and preparation
Scan data is refined into a clean digital model suitable for archiving, CAD, manufacturing, 3D printing or mould-making.
5. File delivery
Files are supplied via secure download in formats such as STL, OBJ or STEP, depending on your needs.
