My 15-Year Journey in 3D Design, Scanning & 3D Printing
For the past seven years, I’ve completed a wide range of 3D printing, 3D scanning, and digital modelling projects, supporting hundreds of customers with everything from custom designs and artistic commissions to functional prototypes and replacement parts. Alongside this, I’ve produced and sold thousands of 3D-printed products online, gaining years of hands-on experience in digital design, production, packaging, customer service, and repeat order fulfilment.
Today, BluPrints3D combines hands-on production experience with specialist 3D scanning and digital modelling. My print farm runs regularly for long production cycles, with a fleet of machines capable of producing everything from small detailed parts to larger prints up to 40cm in any direction. I’ve also continued to reinvest in professional 3D scanning technology, allowing me to capture detailed real-world objects for digital reproduction, product development, mould making, creative projects, and scan-to-print work. Over the years, I’ve worked with individual customers, artists, product designers, small businesses, and commercial clients both locally and internationally.
My journey with 3D design software began 15 years ago as a teenager and eventually led me to study 3D Animation & VFX at university, graduating in 2020. While still at university, I launched BluPrints3D in spring 2019 as a 3D design and 3D printing business, balancing its early growth alongside the final stages of my degree. Managing both taught me valuable lessons in organisation and resilience. After graduating in 2020, I committed to BluPrints3D full time, developing the business through technical experience, continual reinvestment in equipment and technology, and a hard-working, detail-focused approach to every customer project. This has helped me build a leading local presence in the 3D printing and scanning niche, with recognition through multiple awards in South West England. What began with the aim of becoming self-employed and building a career around my passion for 3D design has grown into a sustainable full-time business, built on repeat customers, strong working relationships with businesses, and thousands of online 3D product orders.
In-House Scanning, Printing & 3D Design Support
I handle all 3D scanning and 3D printing in-house, giving me direct control over quality, consistency, and the final result of each project. When a project requires additional 3D design, digital sculpting, or CAD work, I work with a trusted network of experienced designers I’ve built relationships with over several years. Each brings different strengths, from organic sculptural work to more precise product and engineering-style design.
Once any specialist design work is complete, the project always returns to me for checking, refinement, and final approval before moving forward. This allows larger or more time-intensive design projects to be completed efficiently, while keeping quality control and final responsibility with BluPrints3D.
